Restoring Run Command in Windows Vista Start Menu

November 20, 2008

Run command in the start menu of my previous XP is my trusted, all-around “guy”.  I used it for almost everything, running an application, pinging my network connection, calling up a file or a folder and among other things.  Thus, when I start using the Windows Vista I felt at loss when I can’t find my trusted, all-around “Run” guy in the start menu.

I want my Run Command back, fast! So I try to tweak some settings in the Start menu and viola! A restored Run Command on the Vista start menu.  Here’s the quick tweak (I love the rhyme of the word ;- ) to have that all-purpose Run Command in your Vista:

  1. Right click the Start button.
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. With the Menu Tab active, click the Customize option.
  4. Browse through the list of options and check Run command.
  5. Click OK, then click another OK.

The Run command will be added in the lower-right portion of the Start menu.  For just a little trivia, Run Command doesn’t appear on Vista if you are using the default start menu. But if you are using the Classic menu run command is still a part of its start menu.
