According to statistics, there are more than 300,000 accidents happen in the bathroom every year. Some of this result to major injuries and other resulting to death. This might be sound scary but you don’t have to stop using your bathroom. There are so many ways that we can do to prevent bathroom accidents to happen.
Accident Prone: Slippery showers and tubs
Prevention: Have a skid proof rubber mats both in the shower and in the tub. Install also a grab bars in the tub and show area, this is very good idea especially if there are aging adults living home.
Accident Prone: Too hot tap water
Prevention: Too hot tap water causes about 3,800 injuries and 34 deaths each year. The majority of those accidents happen to kids below 5 years old. To prevent this accident to happen, turn down the water-heater thermostat, or better yet install an anti-scald valve. The anti-scald valve is a device that shuts-off water if it gets too hot.
Accident Prone: Wrong electrical outlet
Prevention: Get a professional electrician to fit outlets with Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). The GFCI are essential in bathrooms, kitchens, and anywhere near water. If you have GFCI-protected outlet and accidentally drop your the hair-blower in the sink full of water, the circuit will be cut, preventing the possible electrocution. GFCI could prevent 75% of the electrocution and burns and electric shocks that occur in homes each year.
